Attorneys challenging Arkansas' takeover of Little Rock's public schools are asking a federal judge to prevent the state from approving new charter schools in the district.
The attorneys representing a group of parents and students in the district asked U.S. District Judge D. Price Marshall Jr. Friday to issue a temporary restraining order preventing the state from approving eStem Public Charter Schools' plan to expand to three campuses in Little Rock. The state Board of Education plans to later this month review a panel's approval of the charter school expansion.
Marshall will hold a hearing next week in the lawsuit filed by the parents and students, who are challenging the state's decision to take over the school district last year after six schools were found to be academically distressed.
