The Arkansas Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments for Oct. 23 in a lawsuit that seeks to place a measure on the November ballot that would legalize alcohol sales in Saline County.
Circuit Judge Grisham Phillips ruled last month that a petition to place alcohol sales on the November ballot in Saline County fell short by nearly 90 signatures. Phillips had disqualified 159 signatures.
A group called Our Community, Our Dollars argues that there are enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. They say the Saline County Clerk's Office didn't certify 720 signatures once it believed the threshold to place the issue on the ballot had been reached.
Briefs from both sides will be due ahead of the oral arguments. Early voting begins Oct. 20 for the November election.
