Prosecutors have charged the owners and a former funeral director of a closed Arkansas funeral home with corpse abuse, five months after bodies were found stacked on top of each other and lying outside of a freezer, decomposing.
Jacksonville police say Arkansas Funeral Care's owners, 86-year-old LeRoy Wood and his 61-year-old son, Rod Wood, surrendered Tuesday. Funeral director Edward Snow was arrested Monday and released on bond.
Each is charged with 13 counts of corpse abuse. The business' license was suspended in January after the state licensing agency investigated complaints by a former employee and found a cooler "filled beyond capacity with bodies" and bodies "stacked on top of each other."
The Woods didn't respond to phone messages seeking comment and an attorney for Snow declined to discuss the charges.
