A $2.8 million grant from the National Park Service will support projects planned at camps where Japanese-Americans were held during World War II.
The projects include the Rohwer and the Jerome relocation centers in southeastern Arkansas.
The grants announced Friday include $153,699 to the Central Arkansas Library System for a project called "Exhibitions and Educational Outreach on the Confinement Camps at Rohwer and Jerome, Arkansas." Another $74,275 grant to the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles will support an interactive web site on several camps, including the one at Rohwer.
The grants are for educational programs, preservation projects, memorials, and exhibits at the camps where more than 120,000 Japanese-Americans were held by the U.S. government following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
