The National Weather Service says Arkansas will wrap up August with hot temperatures after a relatively mild summer.
Forecasters say temperatures will likely approach 100 degrees this week with an even higher heat index in all areas of the state except the Ozarks.
Temperatures have only reached triple digits a handful of times this summer. At the same time last year, Fort Smith had had three dozen days with temperatures at 100 degrees or hotter.
This summer, Fort Smith has only recorded three days above 100 degrees. In Little Rock, there's been just two days above 100 degrees this summer - compared to 28 days last year.
The weather service says Fayetteville, West Memphis, El Dorado and Pine Bluff haven't had a day above 100 degrees so far this year.
