Immigration is heating up as an issue in Arkansas' closely watched Senate race, with Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor and Republican Rep. Tom Cotton targeting each other's records on border security in competing television ads.
Pryor's campaign on Thursday announced a new ad defending the two term lawmaker's record on immigration and border security. The 30-second spot pushes back against an ad Cotton began airing over the weekend that accuses the Democratic lawmaker of supporting amnesty for immigrants in the country illegally.
Cotton has criticized Pryor for supporting an immigration reform bill that passed the Senate last year. Pryor's ad features a quote from Republican Sen. John McCain defending the measure and saying it doesn't give amnesty.
Both candidates and outside groups have spent more than $18 million on the race.
