A new law enforcement leader is replacing the former Jonesboro police chief who resigned after making disparaging comments about a reporter on Facebook. The Jonesboro Sun reports Lt. Rick Elliot was promoted this week to the position. Elliot says he wants to restore a positive image to the department. He says he will increase accountability and transparency. Elliot started his law enforcement career in 1979 with the department. He has served in both the patrol and criminal investigation divisions. Former chief Michael Yates resigned last month. The mayor suspended him without pay after a series of posts critical of Jonesboro Sun reporter Sunshine Crump.
