KUAR is proud to have received two first place awards from the national industry group Public Radio News Directors Incorporated. They were handed out Saturday during PRNDI's annual conference for newsroom leaders, held this year in St. Louis, Missouri.
In the category News Feature, division C, KUAR won first place for Sarah Whites-Koditschek's report "911 Systems In Arkansas Decentralized, Underfunded." It looked at efforts to address problems with emergency call systems in the state.
The station also won a first place honor in the category Long Documentary, division C, for J. Bradley Minnick's Arts & Letters program "Sundays With TJ." It featured Janice F. Kearney discussing her memoir about her father.
Stations or news organizations are ranked based on the size of their staff. The awards were announced this year by NPR newscaster Korva Coleman, with KUAR's awards picked up by News Director Michael Hibblen.
PRNDI is a non-profit organization made up of public radio newsroom managers from around the country who gather to discuss issues facing the industry. About 200 news organizations, a record the group reports, took part in this year's conference.
