Legislators To Get Arkansas Lottery Update

Lottery Ticket Being Read in Front of Counter

The legislative committee that oversees the Arkansas lottery is to get an update on scholarship awards and on the lottery's finances.

The Lottery Oversight Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Lottery Director Bishop Woosley is to describe the lottery's financial picture.

Interim Higher Education Department Director Shane Broadway is to update legislators on lottery-funded scholarship awards, of which students are presently being notified.

In the last session, legislators approved changing the formula for scholarship awards, switching to a system that gives freshmen $2,000 and adds $1,000 per year until topping out at $5,000 for seniors.

Some universities are supplementing awards for freshmen to help offset the change.
