Pike County Senior Named As Driver In School Bus Stop Death

An 88-year-old Pike County man has been identified as the driver of a vehicle that struck a 12-year-old student who had stepped off a Kirby School District bus.

Arkansas State Police identified the driver Wednesday as Dwight L. Moody of Delight. A State Police report has been submitted to Prosecuting Attorney Bryan Chesshir, who is reviewing it to determine if criminal charges will be filed.

Authorities say 12-year-old Jazmin Hernandez of Glenwood was struck as she crossed a highway on Monday after a westbound sport utility vehicle drove through a school bus warning signal near Salem along U.S. Highway 70. Hernandez died at a Little Rock hospital after being airlifted from the scene.

Investigators say the school bus was unloading passengers and that all emergency lights and signals were activated.
