Broadcast networks unveil a new season of failing up

The annual mating dance between advertisers and the big broadcast networks — otherwise known as the Upfront — wraps up Thursday in New York.

For days, CBS, NBC, Fox  and the like have been parading their new shows in front of media buyers, who in turn have been placing their bets on the new season by locking in ad time.

Come fall, viewers will have their pick of new dramas and comedies about time travel, a sensitive dog with a Rodney Dangerfield complex, a series based on "The Exorcist" and dozens of other attempts at a hit.

EgyptAir flight MS804 from Paris to Cairo crashed

An EgyptAir flight that went missing between Paris and Cairo has crashed, French President Francois Hollande has confirmed.

The Airbus A320 disappeared from radar at 02:30 Cairo time (00:30 GMT), soon after leaving Greek airspace.

This final note on the way out, ending, in a way, where we started: Worker pay.

The board of directors at Viacom voted today to stop paying the salary of 92-year-old Sumner Redstone, its founder and chairman emeritus. Until this afternoon, Redstone made $2 million a year.

Symbolism here is everything. Redstone's worth something like $5 billion dollars. 

He just won a legal fight over his mental competency a couple of weeks ago.
