Lincoln Says Effective Communication Key To Pryor Victory

Former Democratic U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas is now a lobbyist working on issues that impact small businesses and independent contractors. Lincoln lost her Senate seat to Republican John Boozman in the 2010 election. 

In an interview with Talk Business Arkansas, Lincoln says Senator Mark Pryor will face many challenges for reelection, especially when it comes to getting his message out to voters.

Arkansas Governor To Name New State Treasurer

Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe is naming his pick to replace the state treasurer who resigned over accusations she accepted cash payments in exchange for steering business to an investment broker.

Beebe on Wednesday planned to announce the replacement for Martha Shoffner, who stepped down last week after she was charged with extortion by federal prosecutors over the cash payments. 

Whoever Beebe appoints will fill the remainder of Shoffner's term, which ends in January 2015, and can't run for the post next year. Shoffner, a Democrat, was re-elected in 2010.

Legislators Say So Long, Carter Says Some Other Time

Arkansas Speaker of the House Davy Carter said the state should loosen its term limit restrictions for state legislators and consider open primary elections as ways to better represent its populous.

Arkansas House Speaker Davy Carter says he won't seek the Republican nomination for governor next year. Carter announced Friday he won't be joining the gubernatorial race. 

Carter said last month he might seek the Republican nomination. Carter was elected House speaker last year after Republicans won control of the state Legislature in the November election. The 38-year-old has served in the state Legislature since 2009.

Sterling Says AG’s Office Needs Conservative Leadership

David Sterling says his conservative leanings and the absence of other candidates led to his decision to enter the 2014 Attorney General’s race.

Appearing on the latest Talk Business Arkansas webcast/podcast, Sterling said he will seek the GOP nomination for Attorney General next year in an effort to offer voters a conservative choice in the race.

State Rep. Debra Hobbs Running For Arkansas Governor

State Rep. Debra Hobbs (R-Rogers) says she'll run for the Republican nomination for Governor in 2014 and begin her campaign in June.

Rep. Debra Hobbs says she's seeking the Republican nomination for Arkansas governor next year.

The third-term lawmaker from Rogers on Monday said she'll formally launch her bid for the state's top office after June 17, but said she's already decided to run. Hobbs is the third Republican to announce a bid for governor next year.

Hobbs has served in the state House since 2009 and hasn't faced a primary or general election opponent for her seat. Hobbs said she hoped to initially raise at least $500,000 for her bid.

Inman Announces Bid For Arkansas Secretary Of State

A longtime election official from Little Rock says she's seeking the Democratic nomination for Arkansas secretary of state next year.

Susan Inman on Thursday said she's running for the party's nomination to challenge Republican Secretary of State Mark Martin.

Martin was elected in 2010 and has said he's running for a second term.

Inman serves on the state Board of Election Commissioners and the Pulaski County Election Commission.

She is also president of the Arkansas County Election Commissions Association.

Arkansas AG Rejects Wording Of Medicaid Referendum

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has rejected the wording of a proposal to ask voters to approve a new law that would use federal Medicaid dollars to purchase private insurance for thousands of low-income residents.

McDaniel's office on Tuesday rejected the wording of a proposed referendum on the "private option" that lawmakers approved this year as an alternative to expanding Medicaid's enrollment. The wording of the referendum must be certified by McDaniel's office before supporters can begin gathering signatures to place it on next year's ballot.

Arkansas' Auditor Won't Seek Re-Election In 2014

Arkansas Auditor Charlie Daniels says he won't seek re-election in 2014.

Daniels, a Democrat, has been a fixture at the Capitol for decades and his Monday announcement makes the statewide auditor office an open seat on next year's ballot.  

Daniels served as state Lands Commissioner for 18 years, starting after his election in 1984. Term limits didn't let him run again in 2002, but he was elected secretary of state that year, serving eight years and then wining election as auditor in 2010.
