Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock is getting a new carrier that will offer nonstop jet service. Allegiant Air will have flights from Little Rock to Orlando, Florida beginning June 6th. 

Shane Carter with the Clinton National Airport says this is a good opportunity for families and business travelers who want to get to Orlando without making connections in other cities. 

Union Pacific says the engineer who was injured in a train collision in north Arkansas over the weekend has been released from the hospital.

Union Pacific spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza says the railroad doesn't yet know why a northbound train crashed Saturday into a parked locomotive near McRae. An investigation is ongoing.

Amtrak Selling Tickets For Hope Service

Amtrak says it is selling tickets for its new service in Hope. The stop at the hometown of former President Bill Clinton begins April 4. 

Local officials are planning a ceremony to mark the service later in the spring. The westbound Texas Eagle is to depart Hope daily at 5:09 a.m. with stops in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio. The eastbound train will leave at 9:18 p.m. daily with stops in Little Rock, St. Louis and Chicago.

Highway officials say the whole support structure where a tractor-trailer hit a bridge in the fiery accident Thursday will have to be replaced.

Spokesman Danny Straessle with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said the Young Road overpass near the Crystal Hill exit on Interstate 40 in North Little Rock is expected to be re-opened Friday evening with 200 tons weight restrictions.

As  teenagers around the state begin to celebrate the end of the school year, Arkansas State Police will be on the look-out for intoxicated underage drivers. Spokeswoman Ann Whitehead says drivers can expect an increase in the number of patrols and roadway checkpoints in coming days. She says these actions are about safety.

“Car Crashes are the leading cause of deaths for teens,” says Whitehead. “This is an especially important message this time of the year when many young people are on the road attending spring breaks and end-of-school activities such as proms and graduations.”

Motorists driving west on the Cantrell Road viaduct near Little Rock's Riverdale neighborhood may have felt quite a jolt Friday after a sizable hole developed in one lane of the elevated roadway.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department is planning for another major highway redesign in the Little Rock area. After crews finish re-construction of the I-630/430 “Big Rock” interchange at the end of next year, contractors will bid on plans to revamp the I-30/430 interchange in southwest Little Rock. Nearly 100,000 vehicles travel through the interchange each day.

A former state lawmaker, who has led efforts concerning state highways in previous years, was appointed Thursday to the Arkansas Highway Commission.

Former House Speaker Robert Moore was named to a 10-year term, replacing commission Chairman Madison Murphy, whose term is expiring.

Moore said he realizes the significance and challenges of maintaining good highways and will look for innovative new ways to meet the challenges of funding needed work.

Little Rock National Airport is being renamed in honor of Bill and Hillary Clinton. The airport's commission unanimously approved the name change Tuesday after hearing comments from the public.

Arkansas House Speaker-elect Darren Williams told the panel he believes it an appropriate way to honor the 42nd President and the Secretary of State. 

Two Rivers Park Bridge

Hundreds of people came out Friday, many with their bicycles, for the dedication of the new Two Rivers Park Bridge.

"Welcome to your new bridge!” Pulaksi County Judge Buddy Villines said to a cheering crowd. 

The $5 million pedestrian and bicycle bridge crosses the Little Maumelle River where it meets the Arkansas River and links the Arkansas River Trail with Two Rivers Park. Construction of the bridge, which took a year build, was funded with 80 percent federal dollars and Pulaski County paying the rest.
